What has shipped, newest first. Prose updates itself through Chrome, so you are always on the latest version.
5.13November 1, 2026Current
The release that made Prose work for students on school accounts.
- Prose no longer asks you to sign in to Google. It reads the open document through the browser session you already have, which means no consent screen, no permission a school district has to approve, and nothing for you to click. Students on managed Google Workspace accounts could not use Prose before this, and now they can.
- Fact check. Prose flags claims in your essay that a reader would want a source for: dates, statistics attributed to an institution, quotations with no citation, and absolute claims. It tells you what to verify and deliberately never tells you the answer, because a confident wrong correction in a graded essay is worse than no correction.
- Prose asks for fewer permissions than it used to, and the ones it does ask for are each scoped to a single site.
4.3.23September 21, 2026
- Narrowed the permission for our own API to one exact address rather than a wildcard.
- Fixed sign in failing for some people because the return address was fixed to one installation instead of being worked out at run time.
4.3.20July 21, 2026
- Proofreading stopped marking real words as misspelled. Words like biodiversity, microplastics and doomscrolling were being flagged, which made the whole feature hard to trust.
- When Prose is not confident about a correction it now says so instead of suggesting something that looks authoritative and is wrong.
4.3.19July 20, 2026
- An on and off switch, in the toolbar icon and in Settings. Turning Prose off leaves a small dot in the corner of the document so you can bring it back in one click.
- The AI risk warning now appears only when the risk is real. It was firing too often, and a warning that always fires is not a warning.
4.3.17July 20, 2026
- Paste in your teacher's rubric and Prose grades the essay against that rubric instead of a generic one.
- A college application essay type, scored on voice and specificity rather than academic structure.
4.3.16July 20, 2026
- Document types. An email, a research paper and a narrative are not judged by the same standard any more.
- Learning mode, which withholds rewrites completely. Prose tells you what is wrong and why, and you do the writing.
4.3.15July 18, 2026
- Feedback cards can be dragged by their header, so a card can sit beside the sentence it is talking about instead of on top of it.
4.3.13July 17, 2026
- Highlighting half a sentence now gets you a short, clear message instead of feedback on a fragment that was never going to be useful.
