Support

Updated November 5, 2026

Most problems with Prose come down to one of a handful of things, and they are all below. If none of them is your problem, write to me and I will sort it out.

Messages go straight to the person who built Prose, not to a ticket queue. Expect a reply within a day or two. Tell me what you were doing and what happened instead, and include a screenshot if you have one.

Common problems

Prose is not showing up in my document

Refresh the Google Docs tab. An extension installed while a document is already open does not appear in that tab until the page reloads.

If it still is not there, open chrome://extensions and check that Prose is switched on. Prose also has its own on and off switch, so click the Prose icon in your Chrome toolbar and make sure it is turned on. When Prose is hidden you will see a small ✦ dot in the corner of the document, and clicking it brings Prose back.

Prose only runs on docs.google.com. It does nothing on any other site, by design.

I am using a school Google account

Prose works on school accounts. It does not ask you to sign in to Google at all, so there is no consent screen for a district to block.

What a school can still block is the install itself. Many districts manage Chromebooks and only allow extensions on an approved list. If the install is blocked, the block is in your school's Chrome settings and only an administrator can change it. Your technology office is the right place to ask.

Prose cannot read my document

Prose reads the document through the Google session you are already signed in with, so it can only read a document you could open yourself. If you are signed into more than one Google account in the same Chrome profile, the one that owns the document has to be the one you are browsing as.

If reading fails anyway, Prose gives you a box to paste your text into instead. Pasted text is treated exactly the same way and is not stored.

What do I get for free

Two essay analyses a day, five AI rewrites a day, and twenty five word lookups a day. Proofreading, word count and readability are unlimited and always free.

The counters reset at midnight in your own time zone.

I have a license key

After you buy Prose Pro you land on a page on this site that turns Pro on by itself. There is nothing to copy and no restart. Go back to your document and the Pro features are there.

If that did not happen, open Prose, go to Settings, and paste your key into the license box. A key works on up to three devices.

Lost your key? Write to support@studyprose.com from the email address you bought with and I will resend it.

Managing or cancelling a subscription

Your receipt email contains a link to your billing page, where you can update your card, switch between monthly and yearly, or cancel. Cancelling stops the next payment and you keep Pro until the period you already paid for runs out.

If you cannot find the receipt, email me and I will send the link.

Does Prose write my essay

No. Prose marks what is weak, explains why, and teaches the principle behind the fix. Rewrites are suggestions you choose to use or ignore, and Prose never edits your document. When you accept a suggestion it goes to your clipboard and you paste it yourself.

There is also a learning mode that withholds rewrites entirely, for when you want to do the fixing yourself.

What happens to my essay

The text you ask for feedback on is sent to our server and on to the AI model that writes the response. It is not stored, not logged, and never used to train a model. The full detail is in the privacy policy.

Found a bug, or want something added

Both are welcome, and the second one is how several features got built. Email support@studyprose.com. For a bug, the most useful thing you can send is what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.

What ships, and when, is on the changelog.

Uninstalling

Right click the Prose icon in your Chrome toolbar and choose Remove from Chrome. That deletes everything Prose stored on your computer, including your settings and your writing history. Nothing of yours stays on our side, because none of it was ever there.
